Responsible Travel Tips

Follow some simple and important rules of sustainable tourism

In addition to being aware of the principles of sustainable travel, learn about and respect local culture and help us achieve our greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.

  • Take care of the wonderful nature that surrounds you, because you are a guest here. In particular, do not litter and point out to the ranger on the safaris if you see any waste in nature.
  • Keep the necessary distance from the animals, remain calm, do not make sudden movements, do not wear conspicuous clothing, and do not try to get the animals' attention by whistling, snapping your fingers, calling out or making other noises. This is especially true if you observe the animals from our Tshembo Hide.
  • Do not take anything home that you find in the wild, especially no plants or animal remains.
  • Be aware of general behaviors related to sustainability and follow the simple tips you will find in the lodge regarding electricity use, water consumption, waste and the use of harmful substances
  • Learn more about Rhulani's ambitions to continuously reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to live in peace with nature and communities, and help us achieve our goals by giving us your feedback
  • If you book an excursion to the local communities, ask your local guide about the customs, traditions, heritage and culture of the people you will meet in the village treat them with respect, and please ask before taking photographs
  • Accept the aluminum bottle that we give you on arrival as a gift, fill it with filtered water at the water station at reception and use it throughout your stay during the safaris
  • Use Africology’s ecological products and amenities you will find in the bathroom of your guest chalet and do not use plastic bottles you bring with you
  • In our lodge we have staff who, despite being of the same nationality (South Africa), come from very different cultures such as Afrikaans, British descendants, Tswana, Zulu and others. Respect the cultural differences and learn from them.
  • Support the local economy. Buy locally made souvenirs, eat at local restaurants and enjoy the local culture!
  • Do not give pens, candy or other gifts to local children – it fosters a begging economy. If you wish to donate, get in contact with reception as we can ensure the gifts are distributed fairly and properly.
  • Help us to preserve biodiversity in the Madikwe Game Reserve and/or support our cooperation with local communities with your kind and voluntary donation.
