Eastern Madikwe and Anti-Poaching Operations Centre Visit
Get an insight into the anti-poaching efforts of the reserve
Would you like to drive all the way to the other side of the Madikwe Reserve Game and, once you have arrived in the east, get insights into the technology, strategies and relentless efforts to combat poaching?
On the approximately one-hour drive to the reserve's east side, you will see the changing nature and vegetation and explore parts of the reserve that you don't get to see on the daily game drives.
The ranger will stop the drive should there be any interesting opportunities for wildlife viewing. Refreshing drinks and a packed lunch are also taken on the vehicle, which you can enjoy at around noon.
Guest Conservation Contribution
The rhino poaching threat in Madikwe has increased to a point where the lodges in the reserve have agreed to raise a contribution on all visitors to the park. This levy will primarily be used to boost the efforts of the Northwest Parks Board in their efforts to fight the poachers and to protect the park.
The Madikwe project has been an excellent example of how communities globally can reclaim land for conservation purposes while creating a viable tourism economy. Poaching is a serious threat to both the rhinos but also to jobs in the region.
A highlight of this day trip is a visit to the Anti-Poaching Operations Centre, where your Guest Conservation Contribution is processed.
Through an impressive presentation you will learn about the increasingly sophisticated methods of poachers and the technologies used to monitor the reserve 24 hours a day. You will also get an insight into rhino poaching and the successes of the anti-poaching initiatives achieved so far to win the battle.
You will be back at Rhulani by the time of our royal high tea and the afternoon safari.
