In the quieter phase before the big rush over the holidays, the Rhulani team found time to relax, enjoy themselves and make friends. Rhulani was closed to guests for a day and our team headed off to this year's staff party. It was quite simply "our day" and we all deserved it.
With the approval of all our staff, a beautiful location was chosen, the Thabana Safari Lodge, not far from Rhulani, accessible via a beautiful mountain road in about 25 minutes drive, in the Niedverdiend region, outside the Madikwe Reserve, but still out in nature, with wildlife in the area, and a breathtaking view from the deck over the Marico Valley.
After the last guest had checked out in Rhulani at around 11 a.m. and manager Tom-Hendrik had made sure that everything was already well prepared for tomorrow’s check-ins, things got started and the cheerful employees got on the bus and the party could start.
Thabana is a self-catering lodge with a wonderful main area, which we had to ourselves that afternoon. Tom-Hendrik made sure that all food, snacks and drinks was brought in on time and that the team could relax as quickly as possible upon arrival.
To take some of the pressure off our chefs, Alasdair and Willem also volunteered to be grill masters and thus to prepare a typical South African “braai”. Our chef Phinda still helped to prepare the side dish "pap", a traditional porridge/polenta made from maize-meal.
On a sunny summer afternoon, Tom-Hendrik welcomed the team, there was singing and card playing, eating, drinking, but there were no long speeches or forced games, because it was a day to relax and enjoy. The highlight was definitely the swimming pool, which was used a lot.
Time passed far too quickly, and Rhulani's team set off back to Rhulani in the evening in a good mood and was ready for the morning meeting at 7:30 the following day, fit and in uniform again.
