Whenever we approach a pan or a pond, we can be almost certain that we will encounter the Egyptian Goose there. This bird is closely related to the shelducks, but swims well and appears heavy in flight, more like a goose than a duck, hence the English name. It was considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians, who believed that the geese were messengers between earth and heaven.
