Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.
Today we have the rare opportunity to see two elegant antelope species living together peacefully. On the one hand, the national animal of South Africa, the springbok, and on the other hand, the frequently encountered impala. As similar as these two species are, there are also some differences, which we will focus on in today's blog with Head Ranger Alasdair.
I feel like I'm nothing without wildlife. They are the stars. I feel awkward without them.
Both antelope species generally have a beautiful, light brown coat and the body shape and size are very similar.
The springbok is visually distinguished by the 3 layer stripes, brown, black, white, and interestingly, unlike the impala, the springbok females have horns.
Although it is rather rare for us to see the two together, it can be said that antelopes always like to be together in order to combine forces in defense against the many big cats and dangers out here in the wild.
Stay tuned for the next episode on 23 February when when Willem and Rolf present Rhulani’s latest add-on experience: air rifle shooting, fun for young and old.
