Look behind the scenes of Rhulani Safari Lodge.
Now it's here, the long-awaited sculpture, which will now adorn the lobby area at the entrance to Rhulani Safari Lodge. The whole project, from planning to creating the artwork to delivery and installation, took several months. In today's blog, we are there “live”, so to speak, as the leopard sculpture is carried to its new location.
Everyone had to pitch in and a lot of muscle was needed, including that of manager Tom-Hendrik, chef Phinda and Richard from our maintenance team. The bronze and stainless steel sculpture weighs more than 300 kg. But with strength and skill, it is carried from the trailer down along the entrance bridge to the place in the central area, where you will now always see and admire it.
It is not by muscle, speed, or physical dexterity that great things are achieved, but by reflection, force of character, and judgment.
In this blog we also welcome the creator of the leopard sculpture, the artist Michael Cañadas, who drove 700 km, partly on gravel roads, with his car and the artwork on the trailer, and you will see Michael also present at the installation today. In a next blog we will talk to Michael in more detail about the work.
Stay tuned for a next episode on Sunday 3 November with a rock monitor stuck in the tree.
